These shoes were a trying experience for me. I had purchased very similar shoes a few weeks prior to buying these. They were also Moschino, but they were turquoise sequined halter-backs with a peep toe. I had been unable to decide between the turquoise (a more versatile color I thought) and the orange (more sparkle for the buck). I ended up with the turquoise because of one important detail: they had my size.

But a week later, I was doing my usual trawl through the Macy’s clearance rack (the Macy’s near me is a “premiere” store – they carry a better selection than most Bloomies or Neiman Marcus stores) and came across a size 8.5 in orange! I kept telling myself that I didn’t need more shoes, let alone more beribboned sequined shoes – especially since I had just purchased a pair a week or so prior. But my obsessive nature got the best of me, and I was back the next day.

The 8.5 was still there, and a perfect fit. I had to have it. I brought the shoe up to be matched (on the Macy’s sale rack, they only put out one shoe; the other stays in the back room with the box – prevents theft, allegedly). An hour later, they still could not find the damn shoe! I was patient, but near tears. The shoe had to be there somewhere – no one is going to walk off with just one shoe! But after an hour, the sale staff was tired of searching for it. One lady was nice and took pity on me – she took my cell number and promised to call if they came across the match. To console myself, I went upstairs to browse in the clothing department before heading home – empty handed but no poorer.

I was barely upstairs when my cell rang. The sales lady had found the errant shoe! I raced straight back to shoes, and checked out without delay. Turns out that someone had put the shoes on hold. Macy’s has a 24-hour hold policy; the shoes had been on hold for three days. Apparently a sales person had put the one shoe back out on the floor for sale, but never moved the box back to regular inventory. The shoes were mine!

As it turned out, these shoes are quite versatile – I have worn them more than the blue halter-backs. Partially because the orange ones are more comfortable (the halter back has a tendency to slip off my my heel) and partially because these are one of my few close-toed shoes, so I can wear them during the winter, and I don’t need to have perfectly pedicured nails to wear them. I wear them to spice up an all-black outfit. Also on Halloween when I went all-out with my orange James Perse off-the-shoulder top and my scary orange purse.

And I must brag about my bargain here: these shoes retailed for $530. I paid around $150 after all the sale discounts were applied.
