When I turned 18, my grandmother gave me a beautiful, expensive strand of cultured pearls. I thanked her profusely, but later whispered to my mom, “What am I going to do with these?” I was still young, still prided myself on being funky and weird, and still wore pajamas to early-morning classes. Pearls, to me, felt old. My mother swore that one day I would appreciate them - she felt the same way when she got her first strand of pearls, but now loves them.

Mom was right. A few years later, I really grew into the pearls. While my everyday style was still young, my evening wear was becoming classier. The pearls became the perfect accent to almost any outfit, and I became a pearl connoisseur. I ended up with a jewelry box full of different pearl necklaces.

I was excited to discover Funky Oysters, a new online store that only opened a few weeks ago. Funky Oysters promises a wide variety of real, freshwater pearl jewelry at affordable prices. The designs range from classic evening pearls, to young, funky, colorful pearls that can be worn every day.

The necklace I got was the SoMa style. Small clusters of light and dark pearls are interwoven on delicate wire give this piece something unique and interesting to look at. The iridescent colors speak to the quality of the pearls. And you can tell that there is a lot of care that goes into the creation of each piece - all the clustered pearls match perfectly
