Vinxi Clothing is “Born to Kill”

Another adorable, kitschy, and political shirt from Vinxi Clothing. The guys at Vinxi say this shirt was “probably” inspired by the Iraq war (”probably?” Time to lay off the booze, guys). Although, they do admit to seeing a little girl playing in the street with an oversized army hat. I can see both influences in the design. If you really want to dig deep, you can read this as a comment about the child soldiers of places like the Sierra Leone.
The shirt is all about dichotomies. The cherubic, big-eyed little girl, set against a background of hearts and flowers. But those blooms aren’t roses; they are hand grenades. Her hat doesn’t have a propeller on it; it has a skull and crossbones. The pink screen print is sweet; the drab green is reminiscent of Army fatigues. But let’s face it - most girls do have those two sides to their personality. The sweet girlie part, and the fierce combatant part. Personally, I love sharp contrasts like the imagery on this shirt. It’s something a little unexpected. You see a slogan like “Born to Kill” and you expect to see a fierce tiger or Jeffrey Dahmer. Not a teary-eyed five-year-old.
The shirt is great quality, like Vinxi’s other products. The shirt is a wonderfully soft cotton, and the screen print is of top-quality. The ink doesn’t crack or flake. This shirt hasn’t been subjected to any sorts of banning or controversy (like their pro-choice “Stork” tee, previously reviewed on Spork Fashion. Though when I did get this shirt, I got it along with the aforementioned pro-choice shirt, so I’m sure there are people out there who would find me to be a monster for getting a “Pro-Choice” and “Born to Kill” shirt in the same shipment. Just don’t kill the messenger.
This Spork is eagerly awaiting Vinxi’s fall line.
