Who would have thought that I would love chunky, heavy jewelry so much? In all other aspects of fashion, I seek out far slimmer pieces. I hate big, clunky shoes, and I avoid clothing that isn’t sleek and svelte. The big pieces of jewelry bring a nice counter-balance.

Blox Designs is a perfect example of chunky jewelry. The designers, Magdalena Kubik and Lori Reynolds, both come from interior design backgrounds; subsequently their designs incorporate tiles made of glass and metal. The focus is on clean, modern lines. Many of their pieces remind me of throw pillows, accent shelves, decorative mirrors, and other home accents.

The large black pendant is one of my favorites, but I still have not figured out what to wear it with. The large size requires either a very open neck, or a very high neck. Because of the precise 90 degree angles, I find it looks a bit out-of-place against a scoop neck. The metal-backed tile makes it glitter; the silver circles soften the hard angles.

The blue square tile is only one inch square, making it less unwieldy and therefore more versatile. This one is also set on metal, but a textured metal that gives off a glimmering look of shattered glass. This tile is far thicker than the black. The size, the color, and the texture make it easy to pair with any outfit - simple or patterned.

When I saw the plain white circle necklace, I thought it was fairly boring. That was, until I tried it on. It works with any outfit, but especially with loud, crazy outfits that could be too busy with jewelry. The frosted glass adds an extra element - plus, it feels wonderful in my fingers as I tug on it absentmindedly.

For those of you who like sturdy, modern, clean pieces, Blox Designs is an excellent choice. Pieces can also be purchased at Stars and Infinite Darkness
