My husband and I have what he calls an “Apple Store Aesthetic.” When it comes to design and decor, we like clean, modern lines and mostly monochromatic color schemes. I have already decided that when we buy a house, I will decorate it in white, black, red, and stainless steel. Naturally, these necklaces by Blend Creations caught my eye immediately. This jewelry certainly does blend many dichotomies: east and west; modern and traditional; masculine and feminine.

The rectangular pendant, brushed steel and mother of pearl, is simple elegance redefined. The steel is clean and industrial, softened by curved edges; the mother of pearl is feminine without being girly. It’s the perfect accent to Ouvrez La Porte’s silk raglan dress.

The square pendant is where the old meets the new. This is one of Blend Creation’s Washi pendants. Washi is a type of traditional silk-screened Japanese paper. The washi is protected by a seamless acrylic layer. This offers a completely different look from the mother of pearl necklace. The former is sedate and sophisticated. The washi pendant is a little funkier and a little more modern, despite its traditional origin. And as is a theme with favorites of mine, both have a bit of heft and defined sturdiness.

Blend Creations is aptly named. The company was formed by husband-and-wife team Eric Jean-Louis and Vivian Cheng. He has a French background, she has an Asian background; both were raised in Canada. Graphic and design backgrounds combine to create their unique look.

Ox bone etching and mah jong motifs round out the Eastern influences while solid steel offerings represent the West. One-of-a-kind and limited edition pieces are also available. In addition to jewelry, Blend Creations designs blank cards with a similar simplicity and blending of cultures. One series features bird and tree silhouettes; another features hard-edge graphics of power lines and playground toys.
