Randolph Duke’s show was arguably one of the most popular at Fashion Week. His return to the runway with a Spring 2008 couture collection was beautiful. In keeping with the trend of “going green,” Duke’s collection is a sophisticated palette of earthy pastels and construction that is reminiscent of forms found in nature. Black and white, navy and cream are also prevalent.
Duke’s collection reinvents the silhouette. Body-conscious pieces wrap the body, with unexpected sprays of tulle and pleated taffeta. Sophisticated suits mix with playful suits that float gracefully. I wasn’t thrilled with the leather bras - those never seem like a good idea - but for the most part, the collection was elegant and almost ethereal. Very wearable, while still embracing couture.
