Fashion Week is finally over here in Los Angeles – boy, was it exhausting! Next week I will have a full report on all the shows I attended. For now, while I recover, here is a quick wrap-up. I saw some great shows. I saw some banal shows. I missed a couple shows I wanted to see due to a back injury. I was disappointed by the lack of gift bags at most of the shows (come on – everyone goes for the goody bags). I was surprised and annoyed at the poor organization of the event. I think a big problem was just too many people in such a tight space. The press access was terrible – hence my less-than-stellar photos. But look at it this way – my photos are picking up angles that you probably won’t see elsewhere!

The biggest trend I noticed was that gauzy, Greecian-inspired pieces are still in (and perhaps always will be). High-waists have carried over from fall. Belts are skinny. Silhouettes were loose, flowing, and baggy – though the few corseted pieces got applause across the boards. Bold colors and pastels were equally popular. Prevalent colors were purple, pink, and yellow/gold in a variety of tones.

Best Shows: the sophistication of Randolph Duke, the playfulness of Heatherette, and the graceful femininity of Samora

Best Music: Heatherette (dance club DJ supremes) and Samora (ethereal but upbeat female vocals to match the dresses)

Best Goody Bags: Monarchy (ultra-soft t-shirt, skull key pendant, lipstick, and a number of skincare samples) and Voom (mascara, lip balm, a beautiful handkerchief, and a full-sized bottle of Juicy Jewel perfume)

Most Entertaining Show: Sue Wong, with a trio of cabaret dancers opening the show.

Best Runway Slip-Up: I heard that one model actually fell through the runway at one show and lost her top completely. I didn’t see it, but I did see a model trip in the sod-planted runway at Monarchy. I felt bad for those models, having to traverse grass in heels.

Biggest Runway Surprise: Many of the models actually had breasts! I swear I saw a few C cups up there.
