Not long ago, I attended the Bordeaux Spring fashion show. I must say, I was disappointed. The theme was A Night At The Opera, but the collection lacked the glamour, the sophistication, the theatricality of opera clothing. The collection was rather bland. Bright colors abound, but the shapes were blousy and unflattering. There was an alarming number of bubble skirts (I thought we were done with those). I did like the long silk dress at the end, but even with that, I was underwhelmed by …

Girls love pearls. But let’s face it: traditional strands of pearls can be a little stuffy. They are hard to wear every day without looking like Donna Reed… or Lisa Simpson. But Glamorosi has you covered. This self-taught jeweler (Glamorosi is a play on her last name) has created a vibrant, fun way to wear pearls. Using freshwater pearls on intricately wrapped sterling wire, the pearls are given a modern cascade look.

Besides pearls, Glamorosi jewelry comes in a variety of materials: Swarovski crystal, glass, lucite, wood, …

Tokyo has always been a source of phenomenal fashion. From haute couture to goth, from trendy to Anime, just about any outfit you can imagine can be seen on the street of Tokyo – and a whole lot more. Combine that with the current popularity of street style (where photographers snap pictures of great outfits they find on random pedestrians), and you have a fun and fascinating read: The Tokyo Look Book.

Heather Donahue is a computer programmer by day, self-taught jewelry designer by night. “I’ve recently turned to jewelry as my creative outlet. I’m striving to make this a full-time thing one day,” she says.
This piece is made with African jade and sterling silver chain mail. “It was inspired by the Toto song, ‘Africa,’” Heather says.

She talks about her method: “It sounds kinda funny, but I started the design process by just looking at the beads. Getting familiar with it’s shape. I knew I wanted to …

District Cotton Turns Old Art Into New

Everyone is going green, by using organic, sustainable materials. But what ever happened to recycling? Granted, recycling old products into new often uses the same amount of energy and produces just as much pollution – if not more. The best way to recycle is to reuse material in its current state. So District Cotton did just that. They have created a line of purses and carryalls that are made from vinyl advertisement banners.

“We get the materials directly from the companies that print them,” designer Rodrigo …

“I would describe my style as ‘lazy dancer,’” actress Shannyn Sossamon admits to me on the set of her new TV show, Moonlight. This makes sense, as she is a trained dancer. But she doesn’t run around in shiny leotards and severe buns. “I need to be comfortable,” she says. “I’m a sucker for oversized sweatshirts, legwarmers, and dresses over jeans.”
Today she fits her own description in dark, skinny jeans, gold flip-flops, and a dress by Fremont. “I was given this at a photo shoot,” …

May’s Lab: Social T-Shirting

Ori Guttin believes customers are the future. Or at least, his future. “Buyers are the core of my company. Their thoughts, opinions and interests are all that matter.” His company is May’s Lab, which offers urban-chic t-shirts and undies for men and women. Like their designs? Want to model for them? Ok.
May’s Lab encourages – nay, insists – on customer involvement. The packaging for their shirts instructs the buyer to wear their pieces, snap photos, and submit them to their online gallery. They also …
