A Rose Is A Rose Is A KKPW Design

20 November 2008 350 views One Comment

When designer Shannon Culmo started KKPW Designs, her goal was to “create unique pieces of jewelry that made the individual wearing them feel proud and special.” But when she decided to make a charity piece, she had had to make something extra-special.

Roses hold a special significance for Shannon. Rose was her great-grandmother’s name, and it is both her and her grandmother’s middle name. “Both of my grandmothers were avid gardeners,” Shannon tells Spork Fashion. “It was something that I grew up appreciating and loving. My inspiration often comes from my own garden - many [plants] have come from my grandmothers. It is such a peaceful place, it makes me want to create.”

The “Rose is a Rose” pendant is hand-carved out of sterling silver, set on a surprisingly delicate leather cord. It is light enough to wear everyday, and lays flat against the chest. It’s like a tiny piece of artwork around your neck.

“Rose is a Rose” is a charity piece. 50% of proceeds from this necklace go to the Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence Center of Yolo County. Shannon has long been an advocate against violence towards women and children, and Yolo County in California reported more sexual assaults in 2005 than Sacramento and San Diego combined.

“Rose is a Rose” is the only piece KKPW sells in quantity. Every other piece is limited edition to exactly one. So if you see something you like, don’t hesitate to snap it up!
