Thanks for this contest info! Another great contest is Showbizzle Contest
I had never been one for designer purses or shoes until my mother bought me my first Coach purse. After that, I was smitten. My husband and I had won a trip to Las Vegas and while we were looking at all the stores at the Bellagio Hotel, I walked by the Prada store. There in the window was the most gorgeous Prada satchel I had ever seen. It was black with all these great adornments on it. I must have looked like a kid in the candy store with her nose pressed up on the glass trying to get a glimpse of the price tag on it. I almost went through the glass when I saw it..$1100. I could barely breathe just thinking about shelling out that kind of money on a bag. That bag cost more than my monthly mortgage payment.
I walked away with a tear in my eye. No way could I justify that kind of money on a bag. The entire trip, I thought about that bag. Isn’t that silly…a handbag occupied most of my thoughts those 3 days. The last day there, shortly after lunch, my husband and I sat side-by-side at slot machines at the Paris Hotel. Suddenly my quarter machine lined up triple 7′s. While it wasn’t the jackpot, when the machine stopped counting, I was suddenly $800 richer. I looked at my husband and told him “I’m buying that bag now. I may not have anything to put in it, but it’s coming home with me”.
It’s been five years now, my Prada has seen better days but I got my full use out of it and I never regretted spending the money on that purse. I think I would have pined over that purse forever if I hadn’t bought it during that trip.
Dear Spork,
I have a fancy dress addiction. I have 20 dresses. If it has tulle, a boned bodice, or a floor-length skirt i literally can’t resist it. when i carry my crazy new purchases back to my dorm, i wear big sunglasses and walk quickly in hopes no one will notice me.
fondly,
k.
The craziest shopping splurge probably had to be the one I made when I was only 17. So, all summer I had been working as a medical receptionist earning about $9/ hour. The funny thing is working that much made me less frivolous with my spending. I had given up my starbuck’s frappucino and hadn’t shopped much the whole month. So when my dad said we were vacationing in London to end our summer-I was super excited-I had about $1000 saved up and I was ready for a little splurge since I was working so hard all summer. So as soon as we got out of the airport I dragged my sister to go shopping with me even though she was dead-tired-I just couldn’t wait. I don’t even remember what the first store that we went to was-but I saw these patent peep-toe louboutin’s-and oh my god-I HAD to have them! They were $795- impossible right? nope, not in the vocabulary of a 17 year old. I couldn’t buy them in front of my sister, so I had to wait the for the next day. Yes guys, I bought a pair of louboutin’s at 17-with my summer job savings, crazy? just a tad bit..
the funniest part is-my mom asked how much they were, I nonchalantly replied $50, my mom shook her head in disapproval and said I spend too much…hah-I could’nt defend myself there..
Sorry, but I am a sad disappointment to the shopaholic cause. Curse my frugality! I can’t even think of an example of overspending on girly stuff.
I just dropped over $1600.00 on bras. There is a great place in Santa Barbara that does fittings and sells beautiful lingerie! I went crazy!
I am honestly not a big splurger, I am more of a deal-aholic. That being said, I still have a tremendous amount of credit card debt, so I am not sure where I went wrong!
I got crazy one day and bought a gucci wallet. This was when I was in my 20′s and $300 was a whole lot of money. But I had to do it.
Many years ago I bought an expensive bag and that day I felt so great! But I never had the chance to do it again. It’s sad lol
My biggest splurge was on a gorgeous fender guitar and amp and other accessories to go along with it. I just couldn’t say no once I was in the store and salivating over the beautiful instruments!
I couldn’t sleep so I stayed up all night shopping at Walmart!
My car broke down one Friday as I was leaving work. It did have a lot of miles (and some damage from an accident) but still probaby could have easily beeen repaired. Instead I went out the next morning and bought a car. As a young person with plety of student loan debt and a low paying job the last thing I needed was a car payment!
My best shopaholic moment was when I won a $1,000 shopping spree to an online boutique. I spent it all in one fell swoop, but sizing my Tag jeans was tricky!
i am more of a bargain shopper i like better things but not at better prices, so i hunt down the clearance racks and there is no stopping me then thanks for the giveaway
biggest spurge was a brand name wallet like 400 dollars..
My biggest splurge happened right after a very bad break up, s I think that was behind my spending spree. Also I had reason to be in New York City, so I went a little crazy buying shoes (I’m a big Sex and the City fan) and bought some Choos and Manolos. Mind you I had NEVER spent more than 100 for a pair of shoes and now I was spending 500 a pair. Three thousand dollars later (yes that’s right) I had some fabulous shoes, that I only wore once or twice because I was afraid of damaging them. It took me 2 years to pay off that credit card bill. And I sold all but two on ebay to pay the bill down, but it was fun being Carrie Bradshaw for a day.
Thanks for the giveaway!

I have always loved fashion and clothes, ever since I can remember I have wanted to be one of the prestiges New York’s most fashionable women! I shop until I have spent my last. I am a college student at FSU and because I am addicted to fashion and staying up with the trends, I work two jobs and blog to keep up with my addiction. When I saw the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic I knew that she was playing me! My friends jokingly call me a label whore or a victim of the fashions because when ever the latest trends come out I have to be the first to have them. I have changed my look and hair at least 5 times in the past 6months. I went from preppy to punk rock to high fashion all within the last season. I love love love fashion. Post college I want to move to New York and write for a fashion magazine. I keep a journal of all the trends in the fashion world and which look really worked for me and can be revisited later. Fashion is my life! PLEASE PICK ME!!!!!!

My kids always joke about my DEBT because my money goes to D-illards, E-bay, B-ookmans(local bookstore) and T-arget. D E B T – that just about covers it!
I won a trip to NY city and never have been there before, went wild shopping and spent over 1000 on a new wardrobe update!

I am frugal but I can not pass up a good deal on shoes or handbags… I bought a trunk for my handbags but it no longer shuts LOL
My first pay check when i was a teenager before bills. I hit the mall and left wit lots of bags
Oh god, reading the book nearly gave me a panic attack because I used to (and still sometimes do) rationalize/shop like she does! I spent $600 or so in one night online-money always goes faster when you don’t have to see it leaving!-on every beauty and cosmetic product I’d been craving. Brushes from Smashbox, eye shadows from MAC, shower gels from Philosophy… I got six or seven packages in one day and the post office workers at my dorm still make jokes about it!
I think my little brother might take the cake, though… He got ahold of my father’s VISA a year or so back and ordered himself not one, not two, but THREE iPods! He said he kept finding better models/deals… By the time my father noticed the charges, my brother had already given away two of the iPods and broken the third. Uh oh!
My biggest splurge was after my oldest daughter told me she was pregnant. I ran right out and bought a digital camera, new computer and printer. Since the kids lived several states away I knew that most of my grandmothering would take place online.
I am the anti-shopaholic. I went into Tiffiny’s and purchased a ice bucket without asking for the price. I told my parents and my dad siad good for you and my mom wanted to know the catch. I returned the two thousand dollar bucket but kept the box. We made the box into a wedding chest for my friends wedding.
I’m a actually a magnet for contests with shopping money prizes. Twice last year, I won $300 GC for a local department store and $150 GC for Macy’s. I bought clothes and ‘random things’ I need.
I’m pretty thrifty, but the worst is when you get the bill after Christmas and you can tell by the size of the envelope that it’s not going to be good!
My biggest splurge was for my anniversary when I racked up almost $3000 in 2 pieces of jewelry.
I love shopping with my daughter, she knows exactly what is in style and know how to buy. We stopped 3 weeks and she bought 2 purses ,one for her and one for me. At $430.00 each ,I was amazed. I would never buy anything that costly for myself. I love the purse though.
Thanks

I had written a one-line description of a picture and won myself a shopping spree in NYC. I was taken to the store in a limo (after we picked up the stylist) and we spent allllll daaaaaaay in the store. I was starving after we racked up a $2,500 tab (and that was even after using an 11% off coupon!)…but I sure do have some cute clothes!
My biggest splurge was on a pair of striped pants , which I bought without trying on they ended up being a tad too long aka 5″. So I decided to to a self trim job. I cut them a bit too short, now they have been regulated to my scrap pile.
I’m for all things vintage and fabulous. I faithfully scout our local thrift stores and antique shops for one item: vintage clutch handbags. Nothing (besides lack of closet space) will stand in my way of owning just one more. I Etsy, I Ebay, I Google. I conquer.
Oh, how I swoon when I find one I love. It’s almost like a marriage proposal…you heart beats wildly as you reach out lovingly to affirm your commitment to a new love of your life. You blink slowly, savoring every moment, as background noise blurs and time stands still.
Blessed with a supportive spouse, my addiction has gone untreated. Recently out to dinner, our server could not take her eyes off my bag…a petite beaded wrist clutch. I followed her eyes past my wine glass to catch her gazing lovingly at this exquisite work of art and smiled sweetly. She and I share a similar love affair.
“Tell me,” she whispered. “Where did you get that awesome clutch?”
Oh I have my secrets…but this one is truly one of a kind. And came to me free of charge.
My second Mom is that mystical Glenda figure all of us seem to encounter on life’s path. Part magician, part fashion goddess, part etiquette queen, she swoops up a diamond in the rough and before you know it, you’re coiffed and manicured at a dinner party surrounded by those of more extravagant means. Mom’s claim to fame was owner of a small town’s women’s boutique for 30 years. Now in her 60s and a grandma, her love for hand bags no longer has a place in her life, but her passion for things of beauty remains as strong as ever.
The solution: Clean out her closet and let me have first pick of a collection that rivals most department store inventories, giving these treasures a chance to once again bask in moonlight or hear the gentle rhythms of a Sinatra cover.
We spent three days going through her closet. On the third, just before I was scheduled to make the four hour trip home, my foot kicked a box.
Hidden under mountains of YSL scarves was a small brown box, the corners ragged and tattered with age. Nothing discerning, just a brown tattered box. However, I knew…something in that box was calling my name! Delicately wrapped in a black wool scarf my new love awaited – a petite white beaded wrist clutch handmade in Japan. A souvenir of a buying trip from long before I was born, retired for decades in this large closet in that tattered brown box.
My second Mom read the expression on my face – it was love at first sight. Motionless and speechless, the clutch and I slowly introduced ourselves. Were we compatible?
It seems our decision was already being made for us. Without hesitation, she pronounced, “You two belong together.”
Too exquisite is this piece to lay in a box, it is heavy wardrobe rotation – weddings, dinner parties and even a Valentine’s Date in the city, this clutch and I are rediscovering what it means to live in the moment.
And sometimes, those moments are like a fine Bordeaux…they’re just waiting for the right decade to become fabulous.
FIN.
