Under the Root is made-to-order, vintage-inspired lingerie designed and sewn by Jennifer Brown. Using organic and reclaimed materials, Jennifer pieces each item together with the client in mind. The lingerie captures the spirit of a time that was both simpler and naughtier. Soft pastels and modest shapes mingle with sassy details for a look that is, at once, girl-next-door and burlesque queen.

We checked out a few signature pieces from Under the Root. Our favorite? Undine’s Undies, a full-coverage boyshort that, remarkably, doesn’t ride up or get bunchy. Arabesque Arm Spats are a great way to wear your summer camis into the winter. The Elven Archivist Brassiere was probably my least favorite piece. This soft cup, unlined bra, while well constructed and sturdily sewn, is more for show than anything else. Okay, maybe I’m just bitter because I am too busty to wear the cute, 1940s style bra.
