Project Runway Rundown: Episode 2
Spoiler Alert!
This week’s challenge was to create a pregnancy outfit for model/actress Rebecca Romijn (I will never get used to without the “Stamos” at the end). This was shot back when she was carrying twins, so she had a sizable bump. The designers came up with outfits for a variety of occasions. Several of the outfits were so cute I would wear them in a non-pregnancy size. Shirin’s winning outfit was a beautifully draped cocktail-length dress and complimentary jacket.
The bottom two came down to Malvin’s “bird” concept piece, and Mitchell’s casual around town look. Malvin’s outfit was not flattering, but at least it was well constructed and followed a vision. Fashion doesn’t just have to be clothing; it can – and should – be art. Mitchell’s tee-cardi-shorts combo, while wearable, were dull, and those “shorts” were so dreadfully constructed that I can’t believe he made it through. They honestly looked like a big, droopy diaper. I would always take vision and construction over wearable and sloppy.
Tell us who you thought deserved to go home, and check out all the outfits after the jump.

- Shirin: The winning design, full of beautiful draping and details. Not seen: the equally stunning grey coat with floral lining
- Christopher: Beautiful, classy, easy-going
- Althea: The only evening length dress this week, it is a great dress, but how on earth will pregnant breasts fit into those itty bitty cups?
- Louise: This vintage lingerie-inspired piece is way sexier than most maternity dresses. Bonus: lots of hand-sewn details
- Gordana: A competent but bland piece
- Malvin: Representing a bird’s nest, and accented with feathers, this piece was the losing design
- Ra’mon-Lawrence: The infamous bowling bag dress. I don’t think it was quite that bad
- Nicolas: Solid dress, but unspectacular. The model doesn’t even look pregnant in this shot
- Epperson: A very cute piece that is surprisingly flattering. The pleated taffeta could have gone bad in the wrong hands
- Irina: Very cute!
- Qristyl: Boring. Not flattering, but it looks like the designer ran out of ideas or time or both, and just draped her model in jersey
- Johnny: Another piece that is simple and versatile, and very stylish. I would wear this – it looks comfy
- Carol Hannah: Great color, interesting details, but an odd shape
- Mitchell: Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy
- Logan: Simple and versatile, but a little bland
